Rain Girl Designs started in 2000 with the name Gothic Creations. It is a one woman business ran by me, Joanna. I was in my goth phase and liked to make velvet bags when I started my business hence the original business name. Over time my own personal style changed as did what I made and the name no longer fit so Rain Girl Designs was born. I choose Rain Girl Designs because I live in the Pacific Northwest about 35 miles south and east of Seattle. It rains here and I like rainy days because I can sew all I want. It was a name that I felt fit with the more bubbly, fun loving gal that I am.
I have been sewing since I was 7. I've been making bags for nearly 18 years now. I've been making tablet and ereader covers since 2012. I've just started making more fashion accessories and clothing items. Along the way I dabbled in silversmithing, PMC (precious metal clay) design, glass fusing and slumping, and lampwork bead making.
I work part-time for a nationwide retailer and I am currently going to college for a certificate/degree in medical assisting. When I am not at work, in school or sewing my other hobbies involve baking, cooking, and vintage sewing machine repair. I have seven vintage sewing machines that I consider mine plus another 15 or so that are in my work room waiting for their time at the bench.
